Here we are again, with a brand-new website, because some bad actors with malicious coding skills exploited a weakness in one of WordPress’ countless open-source plugins.
It’s fine, really. I was planning on redesigning pjperez.com (again) anyway, even though I just did it probably less than a year ago. Instead of taking the time to figure out what files were corrupted or carefully dissecting directories, I just went for the nuclear option, uninstalling WordPress altogether, and starting over from scratch, with a few more safeguards and a few less plugins.
It makes me miss the days when my sites were hard-coded, flat HTML files that didn’t have easily corruptible databases so exposed to the world. Did you know one-fifth of all web traffic is from spambots now, basically? I don’t remember where I read that, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m actually a little surprised it’s not a higher percentage.
Anyway, here it is, the groove, slightly transformed, and I still have a bit of polishing to do (like figuring out why my page headers are hidden under the floating menu, and maybe how to un-float the menu), but it’s a functioning site with words and pictures and a way to get in touch with me, so there you go. What more does one really need these days?
